We are following tech news all the time but we are really confused about the endless stuff companies and individuals are developing all the time. Android, iPhone 4, tablets, BlackBerry 6, Google Cloud, Web Apps, Desktop Apps and even mobile apps. We are lost with all these stuff, we don’t know what to buy or what to recommend to others. Quality is good but perfection is something you cannot get these days. All these stuff are making us a little bit worry about what the future is hiding for us.

Today, when you want to buy a new mobile, you will end up with a loop of endless models and different features, you will be hearing pros and cons on the same mobile and you will never ever see 100% agreeing on your chosen device. For an example, Nokia 3320 was the first choice and everyone was saying it has no problems. We were totally satisfied with our limited mobile phones and we were happy. That thing is not noticeable these days and you can barely pick a phone without hearing “It sucks!”.

For the record, I’m missing my Nokia 3320 so much. There was nothing to care about, no applications, no complicated software issues! All you need is to make a call and do your job. That was awesome. These days, I spend a couple of hours daily to find new apps for my iPhone and iPad. It’s all about being curious what this app does, and how about giving it a shot, you will not be able to resist. Eventually you will find that you are paying for apps you don’t use or at least you don’t need. Eh, but you are happy, tho.

I’m missing those days and at the same time I cannot go back for less features devices. God, I must stop reading news and only focus on what is much important.

This annoying fact is applicable on Android Marketplace as well. I’ve spent 3 full days with Android mostly searching Android Market for iPhone apps alternatives. I expected to get better search results than the AppStore but they were worst. Apple says that they have +220,000 apps in the AppStore and I believe that but I think +40,000 apps are totally unusable and useless apps and for Android Market I can remove up to 10,000-15,000 apps that are fully ugly, useless and unusable apps. Apply that to Windows Mobile Market and every platform stores around.

Firefox has a big challenge now with the its coming release Firefox 4. Try to browse Firefox Extensions, Plugins and Themes libraries to realize that there are many extensions and themes should be removed right now because they are insanely ugly and pointless. I can tell you that seeing a very old theme or extension has no meaning and I’m wondering why Mozilla still host them.

The problem with Apple, Android and Firefox Stores is the fact of their willingness to host as much as possible of apps, themes and extensions to their platforms no matter how good or usable these stuff to users. They want bigger numbers of developers and apps on their stores and the user is a secondary issue to care about because their excuse always is “Users will eventually get what they are looking for”.

Actually I think Apple, Android and Firefox will not take this issue for real because I mentioned previously, they need bigger and attractive numbers to gain more users. If you think that a question like “How many apps?” is not popular then I tell you, you are wrong. Today’s smartphones aren’t a big deal and that simply because there are hundreds of smartphones out their, but the winner is who gain and build a solid platform for app developers. Statistics says that many users aren’t satisfied with their smartphones but they need to use there favorite apps, they cannot switch to a new mobile device and start exploring alternatives to what they left behind and that applies the rule “No everyone is a geek”.

There are many ways to make a store less crowded and at the same time full of useful and usable apps. They may have a lot of ideas on how to do that but here is what I suggest or truly believe in:

• Platforms creators must force and apply Support rule on all developers to keep updating and enhancing their apps and keep supporting and response to users reviews about missing features,
• There should be Demo versions of paid apps to let users test an app before pressing buy button and start complaining on their unfair deal. I don’t care about demo period but let me be fair with developers and say that 1 day is enough. Demo versions of paid apps is a feature of Android Market
• A new technique is to delete any app if it has no popularity or if it remains for 2-3 months without any user purchase. That could be better for filtering apps and discover what users have dismissed.

Platforms creators and developers should know that users will surly stick to their platforms and apps when they notice increasing enhancements and support for what they paid for. I would love to see many apps in Android Marketplace and Apple AppStore but only useful and featured apps.

Steve Jobs reply to the user who reported the antenna issue wasn’t acceptable to all including me, because I really think that Apple is reinventing the way people hold their mobile devices. here is Steve’s reply:

Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

Technology has something called “Wise” and it’s about holding your money and wait for early customers, users or reviewers to publish their opinions on something. Nobody reported any problem except the antenna one and it’s now the most annoying problem to all of us and the worst to those who purchased iPhone 4.

This issue reminds me of a famous quote says:

Never let technology fool you, hold your money and wait for the moment of perfection.

I badly want to get an iPhone 4 but antenna issue is making me confused. We don’t have any Apple Store here what makes it hard to return your iPhone and get another one. I think that we all should wait until knowing that the issue isn’t available anymore. I really wish Apple to find a solution for that problem as soon as possible because we want to get it but the antenna issue is not a thing you can deal with. My advice here to everyone is to wait until the solution.

No, the problem does not affect all iPhone 4s. I’ve been trying all morning to reproduce the problem. I spent some time doing this yesterday, too, in three different locations. So far I’ve been unable to affect the number of bars.

1st Reason: People want to get AppStore apps for free, they won’t pay for an app they may use for one or two days. People mostly loves to test new apps for free and I am obviously one of them.

2nd Reason: Cydia offers a lot of hacks and tools that may enhance your experience. With iPhone 3GS people want to use themes and set some beautiful wallpapers, they want to install hacks and play with their iPhone.

3rd Reason: Unlock the iPhone to use any SIM card from any carrier.

Actually the 1st reason is meaningless. I was sitting and writing down my favorite apps that I will use on my iPhone 4, I have started to consider them as Used and Unused apps. I figured out that I don’t really use 40% of the currently installed apps, I started to delete unused or useless apps. I ended up with 5 pages and 2.5 pages were containing free apps and the other half was crowded with duplicated apps like Twitter for iPhone, Echofon. Why I want to use 2 twitter clients? why not only one app? Twitter for iPhone is the official app of Twitter Inc. and it’s free. I started to replace paid apps with free alternatives and eventually, I had the same experience with the free alternatives.

For an example, Awesome Note is such a great notes taking app but the question that you should ask to yourself is “Do I really use its all features?” I don’t really use any feature except the main feature which is taking notes. Now the associated Apple “Notes” app which is also free contains many features including tags and folders. It’s totally enough, then why to pay for an app with a few certain features that are already available in free original app?.

The final result is “Cost” after calculating how I should pay for apps I cannot really live without them I found that I need to pay $25 and that’s equal 17.58JOD, lets say 18JOD. Most of apps costs $0.99 only. Why won’t we appreciate developers work and efforts and pay these cents? Come on, please! [My top paid apps].

The 2nd reason is dead to me. Do you really think that I like Cydia? I really hate this illegal piece of software and its endless problems and uncounted bugs. Between the lines I want to ask all of you iPhone users, Do you fully trust Cydia apps and hacks? my answer is No. I install hacks from Cydia on my own risk. Many times I ended up with iOS crashes and problems and I was searching the web like a crazy to find a solution to my problems and I rarely find an answer to my questions.

Cydia sources are offering great apps like Backgrounder and ProSwitch for Multitasking, SBSettings to control connections and Categories to create folders, but now iOS 4 offers these features which were implemented the best and niftiest way. Multitasking and Folders are already available beside many features you can read here [iPhone 4 Features]. Now I say “Go to hell Cydia, I don’t need you anymore”.

The last reason which is the 3rd one is a little bit confusing. I don’t want to make the same mistake and get Unlocked iPhone, I’ll make sure of getting the Factory-Unlocked iPhone 4 that will not need any Jailbreak/Unlocking processes to use your carrier SIM card which applies the 1st and the 2nd  summery of what I said. U.S. users will be with AT&T which is totally nice.

After I changed them I noticed that I am relying on the internet always and in every piece of problem. How to open the cover wasn’t a serious problem but the problem here is my laziness to try more and more . I went Youtube and I have found the way.

Do we really need the Internet in everything? Actually, Yes, we do. The issue isn’t the Internet but it’s the decreasing rate of using our brain and reply on the Internet. Networking guys knows that the answer is “Subscribe with the newest ISP in your country”. That’s the most correct one. I don’t want to explain how your service is handled by the ISP because it will take a long time  to explain QoS and a few more factors but the issue is about “Sharing“.

The principle is simple, imagine yourself walking through a street with many people, previously, someone told you where to put your feet when you want to walk. you are walking without any problem but your “feelings” will be much better when the street is less crowded.

Feelings above means Performance, when your ISP links are less crowded you will get the best out of your ISP. That’s the real story of our issue, but here is a few questions to ask about the new ISP you want to subscribe with:

1. Stability of the connection.
2. Download limit (Bandwidth) – If available.
3. Customer Support.

If the answer of these questions is positive then do not hesitate, go and subscribe directly but incase it was negative, you should wait.

A few things to consider before you subscribe:

• The “home” connection isn’t feasible anymore. People now are looking for Internet connection wherever they go and the home connection isn’t that good if you want to enjoy the internet inside and outside your home. This is a feature you should consider and take care of this side. (a.k.a USB Internet).
• Download limitations: In Jordan, we are limited to a fixed download limit. 15GB monthly for 1.MB subscription. The more bandwidth you get the more happiness you feel.

Google Reader is FREAKING SLOW. It sometimes takes longer than a minute to open it up. “But my Google Reader account is super fast,” I can hear you saying. Yeah, but you don’t have any friends and you don’t have many things you are subscribed to. Compare to Twitter lists or Twitter itself. I’m following 10,000+ people. More than 100,000 are following me. Yet Twitter opens instantly.

That’s what is changing the comparison. to go for Twitter Lists not for your slow Google Reader. Instantly, you can get everything you want and publish it within a single click.

The problem is having many RSS feeds, feeds you like, feeds that add a value to your work or study and etc. but having them in one place and loading them all is just pointless. Why would you add everything you like and what “may” benefit you in one place and load them all then switch from folder to folder to find your targeted feeds? what a waste of time.

Twitter Lists are quite powerful and better – at lest to me – than RSS readers like Google reader and the reason is here, I don’t want to get exhausted with thousands of links and resources, and I don’t want to open blog posts to read it then decided to “Fav” it or just delete it. what I want is a brief description of what’s inside and I need to have the choice of read any post or send it to Instapaper. What is much wanted nowadays is technique to keep you up-to-date with your favorite blogs on your mobile device. Google Reader does not offer a good mobile experience.

I like Robert Scoble @Scobleizer lists, he a strong follower of social media, web all tech stuff. I follow Most Influential In Tech, Tech News People, and Founders. Tim O’Reilly @timoreilly has great lists as well, I follow Web 2.0, Tech News and more. You can discover more and more of useful lists from your friends and from people you follow.

The good part is you have the choice to create or just follow anyone’s list. This is a great feature and tool that nobody want to miss. Another good thing is that you don’t need to follow Mashable, TechCrunch or anybody else because they are in your lists. Less stress and load to read and more flexibility.

What about mobile devices? Okay, for the iPhone there are many twitter clients with Twitter Lists integration like Twitter for iPhone, Twittelator, and Echofon. For super users there is a dedicated iPhone app for that called TweetList. I use this app and I can not delete or replace it with any twitter clients. I’m a Twitter for iPhone (Formerly: Tweetie 2) strong user but TweetList makes the process much exciting and time saving.

Mac users? This is good mention for Mac OS X users. I use Nambu the free and feature-rich twitter client for Mac OS X with fully lists integration. There are YoruFukurou (Awesome twitter client for Mac OS X), Socialite and more.

MobileMe: The most surprising post I read today was the post about Apple’s MobileMe service  [Free MobileMe Services Imminent?] This is what I have been seeking. I have always been curious to know what’s inside, I always wanted to try it out, sync my contacts, upload my personal stuff to iDisk to make them accessible everywhere but the $99/year was the first problem.

I am really tired of Gmail, I am tired of its sudden “You cannot send this message now, sorry!” Gmail is good but not for work and personal stuff. I will make a big change from Gmail to @Mac immediately if Apple announced that, I will not hesitate. And to be honest, I will surly pay the $99/year and get MobileMe full service incase they didn’t announce that. I am praying to see MobileMe free as Gmail. Wouldn’t be great?

iPhone 4G: My iPhone 3GS is really great but iPhone 4G OS and design is the awesomest ever. I am really waiting for that piece of cake to hit U.S. stores as soon as possible to grab one.

A lot of expectations about WWDC10′ but who knows? Apple always come with surprises to all!.

Imagine that there is no .dmg or .exe but there is a one extension for all operating systems, something like “.os”! wouldn’t be great? Mac OS X users will be able to use any Microsoft Windows application and vise versa. I think it is the most wanted thing after cloud computing.

I don’t want Apple or Windows to stop releasing their operating systems, I just want them to take a big step forward and make their apps cross-platform. Developers will work on a one copy for all operating systems and they will never worry about which platform to use or to support because their applications are going to work on both operating systems, Mac OS X and Windows as well.

I don’t really think that this dream or goal is impossible, everything is absolutely possible and they can do that, if and only if they worked together to bring out the best of both OSs.

Look at the maps below, you can see different places from NYC, Dubai and Amman! you can easily notice the differences (the huge difference) between each one and clearly, Amman’s map is absolutely the worst one! you cannot understand anything from this map, you can only see the main street and the spot isn’t clear, it’s located in a blank space where even Google don’t know a thing about it!

I don’t know who is the responsible of adding data and updating the current on Google Maps, Google itself, the government or users! I don’t think that users can edit the maps or add spots because I tried that many times but didn’t work at all.

This is just a spot light on the problem, wishing Google to update Jordan maps and add spots. I think users are ready to start adding and editing spots.

I have been watching Abu Dhabi 2010 Media Summit conference and I really enjoyed it so much.  The greatest part of it was when Eric Schmidt the CEO of Google started talking about Google and it’s will to be in Abu Dhabi.

He was totally to announce that Google will be soon in Abu Dhabi and expressed that any company would love to work and invest in United Arab Emirates. That was the greatest part of Schmidt’s talk! Brings the happiness and hope in our region and the whole middle east.

Google in this step is simply moving the middle east and especially the Arab countries toward a great step forward! More job opportunities and innovation, new ideas will definitely come up as soon as they started talking to the world from the middle east. The brightest side of the conference was the motivation from Google to the world to start looking again at the middle east and to invest more and more, that’s wat Google CEO said: “It’s a rich environment.”!

Mr Khaldoun Al-Mubarak said that Google’s step and the continuous development of the Arab media and technology will not only provide UAEs with job opportunities and creativity methods but that will benefit the middle east, all of it!

Personally, I think this step will absolutely open the doors in front of us to enter the of media and technology again but this time as producers not only consumers! That’s a great step and I bet, It will be so helpful in three ways, providing job opportunities, motivate the biggest companies in the world to come to invest in the Arab world and put the Arabs in leadership track of the world’s technology.

Congrats for United Arab Emirates and all Arab countries.

Having this problem is not a big isssue but it’s definitely annoying especially if you are uploading a huge file then you ended up with this error! Without speaking about message-acknowledge concept the error occurs when you are trying to open a busy or unavailable webpage (as mentioned in the error message).

Sometimes, it occurs when a plugin, application or device is sending requests very fast so the total number of requests becomes too large and it becomes hard to acknowledge each one in way the server cannot handle it or it may block the sender at that moment. Actually many scenarios may affect this process.

Solution (Mac Users)

Go to System Preferences > Select Network

Now select your connection and hit Advanced, here is your work starts:

From TCP/IP tab, press (Renew DHCP Lease) and insure that your settings match the following:

Configure IPv4: Using DHCP

Configure IPv6: Automatically

From Proxies tab, make sure to enable ONLY Auto Proxy Discovery option.

From Ethernet tab, select Automatically for the option Configure

Windows and Linux Users: You will find the same options for everything in your control panel with the same names but in different places and tabs.

Finally, If your connection is working properly and your network connection settings matching the same as here, then the problem is not because of your network, its an internal error from the website (pages ..) or the server.

I appreciate any suggestions or alternative ways to solve this issue. Feel free to write it.

What Browser? is a website available in 21 languages including Arabic made by Google to show people what a Browser means, how does it works and the differences between each one showing the performance for each one considering to many terms as Javascript and others

I have to say that this website and the whole idea is really impressive! it’s not silly or pointless as many of you have said when you watched the video. Unfortunately there are lots of people don’t know what a browser means!!! Read my short blog post about this issue with a video appended to it shows a real interview with random people from New York city.

I tried to use Google to search “What is a browser”, here is the most used terms:

I am sure that you are now saying “What?”I said the same thing in the past, but when I remembered the interview I said “Good job Google”. This is a great idea by Google (As always) and really worth spreading to let people know what is a browser the easiest way.

What is more impressive from this website and what made me love Google more and more is their reality of showing all browsers and not only Google Chrome, so I cannot say its just a smart advertisement or promoting for Google’s browser.

I always love to modify my IDEs interface, because simply the white color is really painful to my eyes. I love dark themes with bright colors that makes your code looks pretty awesome.

Aptana is my second favorite IDE for web development (the number one is Coda). I love this application so much but as the other, it has a pure white interface that makes working on your code quite painful! so I decided to create a new color scheme for Aptana Studio.

This scheme supports, HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, PHP Smarty, PHP Smarty Confing, PHP Doc, Json, ScriptDoc and XML

Installation

• Download AptanaDark.zip and extract the contents.
• Open Aptana studio and go to Preferences then use the search bar to find “colors“, select each langInv and import the same “.col” file.. Apply, Ok.
• You are done!

This is the next generation of Captcha to stop automatic responses generating from bots and driven scripts. The idea looks very nice and I admit that! the old way using a simple mixed numbers with letters isn’t that good to stop spammers.

The current method and what is being developed (as shown) is based on animation but the problem or difficult side of this Captcha is the complexity. not only to focus and figure out what is the hidden-inside thingy.

Until this moment, bots and scripts can easily beat the regular Captcha secutiry. As an example I use Akismet to keep my wordpress blog safe and clean but unfortunately, it’s not working that fine. I always find between 10 and 50 spam comments everyday.

This development seems to be really helpful and perfect but I really hope see it spreading the world to stop the annoying part of the Internet.

Personally, I think this will be a killer technique to stop spam and auto generated responds! crossed fingers.

They use the actual meanings not what words means in Computer. I will go to iSystem to change my keyboard buttons to English only. The arabic is fine with Yamli plugin for Firefox. everything else is pretty awesome

I was looking for a good theme that fit my needs and let me use Coda without having any problem. This theme was written by Joe Bergantine. He did a very nice job, I really loved this theme so much, really very nice.

Installing the theme is not clear in the Wiki, so I decided to spread it and show you how to install it.. lets start:

Download the package then extract the contents, you will find 3 folders

1. custom-syntax-modes
2. default
3. native-languages

open “custom-syntax-modes”, you will see 5 files each one in .seestyle. now open each file separately using “Terminal“. This screenshot is when I opened “batch.seestyle” ignore these things you see and continue opening each file.

when you are done go to Coda > Preferences > Color tab and start “import” file by file from the second folder “default“. Enjoy your new Coda interface and be healthy. Your eyes are really very important LOL

I use Microsoft Windows 7 on my laptop. my friends told me many times that I should switch to Mac … Why people prefer Mac and they always talk about it? What about Microsoft? is it really bad? Please, I will appreciate any link, info or blog post (ya rait).

I spent more than 6 years on Windows, I have been working on Win95, Win98, Win2000,  Millennium, XP, Vista and now on Windows 7. In every version of Windows, I found something new and special that its not available on the previous one. I used to use Linux Fedora as well and it was really great, but it cannot reach the quality and the ease of use of Windows. If you want to talk about the security, I admit it, Linux is more secure and powerful.

Buying a Macbook Pro with Mac OS X installed on it was my biggest dream at that time. I always said :”Why i bought it? it’s too expensive” but come on. now i say that Mac deserves every JD! I am not really talking about money but what I saw and found on Mac was really great. from now and until I die, i’ll not spend any JD on anything.. but Mac!

I call my self  “Tech Geek”! do you really know what does tech geek means? he or she is a person who look at everything in any operating system, I don’t like the powerful without good interface design.. and I don’t security without having a good environment which offers many applications to my machine. Yes, I am not silly but I care about everything in the operating system I am going to use including fonts!!!

Mac OS provide all these things. The most beautiful interface design (Nobody can deny this), the highest level of security, great user experience in everything, ease of use and many applications for almost everything.

All I need and all I want is available in Mac OS, so why should I accept any OS with less features? Actually nobody would like that at all. Why to lose any feature or advantage? Windows is not that powerful and not well designed. Linux is the really great but there is no enough applications and it’s design is really poor.

Mac OS the first operating system, the most stable one and the most powerful is my choice always and I prefer it and I advise everybody to use it.

All I wrote is what I see and prefer but wait a minute! does this mean that i don’t want to use Windows? when it comes to study or work then I say you should use windows and discover it’s features to be good at everything. so when you go to work you will be able to use anything to finish your job.. isn’t it?

Determine your needs and then decide. but I always advise .. Run a Mac

Symbian OS is approximately 28 years old and Windows Mobile is 9 years old. Windows Mobile is much better, reliable and contains million of features that every user will absolutely love and need everyday.

I want to write what I hate about Symbian operating system, I want to write because I use it currently:

The first issue is about applications! I love Ovi Store and I keep watching what’s new to install it on my Nokia E71 but when i look at iPhone applications, how many application and the functionality of each one, I always say.. I am going to buy one right now. When I see Photoshop, Flickr, tens of twitter apps and more I really feel so bad. They are 85,000 (I heard they are 100,000) applications with 2 Billion downloads!!! do you really imagine this number? it’s really incredible. Take also Windows Mobile applications. I don’t forget to mention Google Android operating system as well, it’s applications are growing so fast.

The second issue is about applications updates. When a new version of X app has been released you will need to download the whole application then install it on your phone. It’s the most annoying problem ever, isn’t it? but simply, Why they cannot release an update to enable installing updates only instead of download the whole application? do not tell me they didn’t think about this issue, never!

The third issue is about performance. I bet, you noticed your Symbian getting slower, more than 20 seconds to open or close an application, freezing, auto-shutdown and more! You may noticed one or more of these problems that related to your mobile performance. Imagine a simple scenario, you bought the newest mobile with Symbian, but you are suffering from one or more of these problems, would you like that? at that time you will not think about your mobile model but you will only focus on how to solve these problems.

I wrote this post not to say that Symbian is bad and iPhone is the best! I love every operating system because simply each one of them has special features. this post is to put a small spot light on Symbian and to say, you can develop it more and more to be better.

The question here is, Will Linux Maemo kill Symbian? is it more powerful? Personally, I don’t think so.
